Evaluating quality of life measures for german clinical trials

Abstract: Inspite of an increased discussion of psychosocial outcomes of medical treatments, quality of life assessments in german therapeutic studies are still rare. Barriers to the development of quality of life related evaluation research include conceptual, methodological, practical and political issues. Each of these key issues is characterized by specific problem areas and by current approaches to problem solution, both being superimposed by cross-cultural considerations. The present paper analyses the "state of art" in german quality of life research with regard to the four key issues identified above and presents own work in the context of a biometrical center as an example for german activities in the field.
