Abstract: A randomized double-blind multicentric study was carried out to test efficacy and tolerance of Organ-Combi-Serum I in patients with reduced fitness. The control drug was Acidum formicicum in D 6 dilution. The patients were observed for 10 weeks.Ergometric-bicycle trials were carried out in Order to make an objective judgement of fitness. The degree of physical strain tolerated was one of the parameters. Additionally, blood pressure and heart rate at rest, at maximal physical strain, and while relaxed were included in the Parameters measured. The mean heart rate at rest subsided from 82,0/min to 78,1/min in the verum group and in the control group from 79,2/min to 75,1/min. It reached higher rates at the end of the relaxation phase after the end of therapy in the verum group with 133,2/min and in the control group with 125,2/min. The mean heart rate in the relaxation phase subsided in group I from 95,5/min to 91,5/min and in group II from 89,3/min to 88,1 /min.The blood pressure didn't change during therapy. In the beginning of therapy 8 patients broke Off the ergometric test before they reached their heart rate of physical strain. After therapy only one Patient of the verum group broke Off the test, whereas 8 patients of the control group did so. Before therapy no Patient reached the point of physical strain of 150 Watts. Whereas 6 weeks after the therapy, 2 patients of the verum group and 3 patients of the control group reached this point. The time needed to reach a heart rate of maximal physical strain ascended in group I from 8.0 to 8.8 minutes and from 8.3 to 9.2 minutes in group II, accordingly, the maximal physical strain in Watt per n2 body surface in group I rose from 0.774 to 0.831, and respectively from 0.823 to 0.870 in group II. The security laboratory Parameters observed before and after therapy were insignificant. The overall efficacy of Organ-Combi-Serum I was rated as very good or good by 85.3% of the physicians and 91.7% of patients. In the control group this was only true for 76.9% of the physicians and 80.7% of the patients.Undesirable side effects were observed in 14 patients of the verum group and 9 patients of the control group, often in the form of reddening, itching or wealing, which subsided without therapy. Only one Patient of the verum group broke off the therapy because of a more serious Irritation. In group I 79.2% of the physicians and 75% of the patients rated the overall tolerance as very good. In group II 92.3% of both the physicians and the patients rated the overall tolerance as very good.Hence, therapy with Organ-Combi-Serum I has proved to be an effective alternative concept for treating reduced fitness, in that it increased the physical capacity and was well tolerated.
