Balneology as a Natural Science: Desire or Reality? |
Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1989; 2/12: 385-388.
Abstract: Empirical balneology existed long before scientific medicine did. It is now part of traditional medicine, as defined stimuli cause measurable bodily reactions. On account of scientific stagnation and because of the advances of surgery, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy, its value has diminished. On account of an increase of chronic diseases that need treatment, and of the higher age of the population, balancing and research initiative appear necessary in order not to let this scientific form of therapy with natural remedies become mere quackery, but to preserve it as a rational and causal form of holistic medicine.
