Organotherapeutika in der Neuropsychiatrie |

Abstract: Since ever in history animals played a role in materia medica. Partly it was a rather odd and curious, partly a very important one. It was difficult for scientists and laymen as well to break with the strange mixture of scientific superstition looking at the old doctrine of remedies.Against almost all neuro-psychiatric diseases as epilepsy, headache, enuresis, alcoholism, sleeplessness, depression, insanity and hysteria a large number of organotherapeutical substances was available.Reading these miraculous reports, it is not surprising, that still nowadays many experts hesitate to use the few really approved substances in neuropsychiatry. Quite an amount of scepticism is still apparent, primarily because of this historical background. In our paper we have restricted ourselves to very few substances, where an the one hand a large number of scientific publications is available and an the other hand we ourselves have been able to gain a lot of own experience. For us in this group for sure by now Cerebrolysine, where we could perform many own experiences, is the remedy of first choice in treatment of cerebral deficiency followed by hemoderivates, where also a series of publications is available, and by phosphadidylserine, where research concerning cognitive impairment, behavioural disturbance and pathological processes of ageing of the brain still is going an worldwide.Looking at peripheric neurology organotherapeutics deriving from gangliosides are of first choice.
