Abstract: Observing the growth of experimentally induced tumors on animals we realized that the granules of tissue mast cells were exerting a reducing effect on tumor growth. Therefore, we investigated a fraction of the mast cell content, namely the Glycosaminoglycansulfates. It could be established that these substances are able to penetrate selectively into tumor cells, even to pass other substances in. In further experiments combinations of Glycosaminoglycan sulfates and cytostatic drugs produced a signifcant better effect both at autochthons and transplantable tumors, compared with cytostatic drugs alone. Chondroitin polysulfate, Dermatan polysulfate and Pentosanpolysulfate seem to be the most appropriate Glycosaminoglycanes for therapeutic use.Primary clinical single case investigations show that the combination with Glykosaminoglycans reduces the side effects of a chemotherapy with a concomitant increase of effectivity. Controlled clinical studies, concerning different kinds of tumor, are being prepared.Tumortherapie; Chemotherapie; Cytostatika; Glykosaminoglykansulfate
