Abstract: A brief survey of acupuncture therapy methods with emphasis an its effect as a regulation-therapy is described.The regulation mechanism in the basic system is activated by the stimulation of the acupuncture point. The reaction patterns which may take place as well as the causes of a blocking of the basic system are discussed. The major indications for acupuncture therapy are presented in detail and also the contraindications, side-effects and complications.Non-responders as well as the compatibility to other forms of therapy are discussed.
