Anti-emetic effect of ipecacuanha in cancer patients treated with cytotoxic therapy : Preliminary study

Abstract: Fourteen cancer patients, suffering from vomiting due to cytostatic therapy were selected for this study. All were suffering from at least three of the following symptoms . 1-Hypersalivation before vomiting. 2. Lack of thirst. 3. No amelioration after vomiting.4. Wet clean tongue. None of the patients had brain metastasis or signs of intestinal obstruction. All patients continued conventional anti-emetic treatment which was insufficient, in addition to the homeopathic treatment. Three patients were excluded due to the lack of compliance although they evaluated the results as very good. Of the eleven remaining patients, four were treated during six cycles of cytotoxic therapy, two d ic effect. The beneficial effect of such treatment in cancer patients under chemotherapy deserves further studies.
