Music and movement for the geriatric resident. Special Issue: "You bring out the music in me": Music in nursing homes |
Journal/Book: Activities, Adaptation and Aging. 1988; 10: 37-46.
Abstract: Used task analysis and observations from music therapy sessions to develop 3 objective models of skills involved in verbally expressing feelings. The models (1) involve a cognitive component, (2) use language or other communication systems as a vehicle, and (3) define objective skills or concepts. Applying these models to the unique properties of music provides music therapists with tools for the development of methods to assist individuals in the verbal expression of feelings and research strategies to validate and further refine the presented models and assessments. The influential role of the social environment in the learning of emotion labels and the possible benefits derived from talking about feelings are also discussed.
