Abstract: In the relationship between therapist and patient, dissonances can occur whose roots are in the unconscious. They hinder both the therapeutic work and the healing process. The traditional Balint group attempts to uncover the cause of the disturbed relationship by means of verbalisation of the emotions and fantasies produced by the presentation of a case study. As communication at language level has proves insufficiant in the supervision of treatment of some mentally disturbed patients, the method presented here extends the classical Balint group by adding the dimention of freely omprovised musical expression. In the music therapy context there is greater emphasis on the non-verbal and atmospheric level of communication in the group process, the level at which the unspeakable can be more easily expressed and experienced.
