Abstract: Discusses the psychodynamics of the destructive relationship between Salieri and Mozart as portrayed in film Amadeus. Driven by insatiable ambition, Salieri had bargained with God for a triumphant musical career. His encounter with Mozart, however, forces him to acknowledge the unbridgeable gulf between Mozart's true genius and his own modest talent. His obsessive envy and jealousy of Mozart are explored within the context of a fantasmic triadic relationship (Salieri-God-Mozart). (English abstract)
