Abstract: This presentation examines the uniqueness of music as a treatment program for assisting developmentally disabled infants and children with Down's Syndrome to gain control over their environment and to develop comprehensively in all areas. Long term aims included: A fostering of: 1) Social Skills, 2) Cognitive factors such as response to a cue and imitation skills 3) building and developing motor skills, 4) attempts to evoke vocal responses to the music for pre-language development. Basic format of the program included: Hello Song, Body Awareness Song, Ball Game, The Balance Board, Nursery Song, Movement Game, The Stick Song, The Bell Song, Drum Playing, Goodbye Song. It was found that children behaved more appropriately, improved interaction with peers and adults, increases in attention span etc.
