Intermusic therapy during training - self-experience as a method of interaction

Abstract: The article describes how self-experience in music therapy, especially the discipline know as "Intertherap" (the name given to the training method for analytical music therapists in the second part of their studies), has been developed and integrated in the music therapy course at Aarlborg University, Denmark. Problems and developmental processes arising from the collision between a university structure and the structure of a therapeutic/practical course are exposed and discussed. With "Intertherap" as a starting point, consequences on the level of transference and countertransference between students and supervisor are illustrated with an example form practice. Different supervision models are noted and limitations and possibilities of music therapy self-experience as an integrated part of such a course are problematised.
