Boundaries and space: Eurithmical techniques as a frame for enhancing creativity

Abstract: This thesis deals with the hypothesis that a creative product needs a frame, limits, rules and organization,in addition to spontaneity, inspiration,new ideas and content. Within the framework of a safe setting, the author believes that the average human being can be spontaneous and creative. The author worked with two groups of 6-7 year old children, in a similar school setting.With one group he followed the Kodaly method of music education;with the other group he used movement and movement notation, according to the Eshkol-Wachman method. Lessons,programmed in time and method, were given so as to produce eurithmical learning. The groups were compared and the results analyzed, especially where spontaneity and creative ability were concerned. The author's hypothesis was confirmed. No consistent advantage was found in either method.
