Abstract: In this study the influence of two different types of music was explored in a controlled program designed to enhance the self awareness of a group of developmentally disabled adults. The needs of developmentally disabled adults in different socialisation stages will first be considered and then the effects of music therapy intervention studies on the self awareness of developmentally disabled adults. The three treatment programs were: 1) Live music program, 2) taped music program, 3) non music program It was expected that the live music program would enhance body awareness more than the taped music program, and that both programs would show more improvement in self awareness than the non music program. Although statistical results indicate certain trends, there was no significant statistical difference to support the hypothesis.
