Is there correspondence between the structures of music and the psyche? |
Journal/Book: Psychiatria Fennica. 1988; 19: 51-61.
Abstract: Discusses the theory that musical and psychic occurrences are isomorphous. According to that theory, music is a psychic process that has its origin in states of tension within man that appear in somato-acoustic form through the ear. This means that music is an external, perceptable manifestation that the individual uses to transform his/her inner experiences of meaning into external (K. Leichter, 1984) audible form. Problems of intentionality and time in music, music as metathought, the forms of music as means of achieving psychic harmony, and the symbolic process as the canon of psychic and musical integration are also discussed.
