Expressive therapy assessment. Special Issue: Assessment in the creative arts therapies |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1988; 15: 63-70.
Abstract: Describes a method for selecting expressive therapy treatment, employing an assessment of client verbalization, action, fantasy, and content skills to make the selection. Assessment results frequently show a close relationship between play, creativity, and action via the symbolism chosen. Procedures include exercises in artwork, music, drama, and mime. Case examples illustrate how the expressive assessment yields data on the client's motivation to participate in the activity, use of creativity while holding on to reality, structural needs for completing the activity, and sublimation of affect through performing the activity.
