Abstract: This paper presents the results of a questionnaire sent to registered music therapists aimed at clarifying the government policies and Acts underwhich RMTs' work. Information regarding therapy skills, differing roles, effect of government policies, views on AMTA support, and how music therapists are viewed in special educational health services. Further ramifications of government policy on music therapy are discussed. Recommendations include augmenting qualifications, working more closely with allied health professionals, doing something about professional isolation, and writing papers to be published in journals other than music therapy journals.
