Abstract: This paper outlines the policy and service direction changes to make in response to the fourteen principles outlined in "The Statement of Principles" included in "The Intellectualy Disabled Persons Act" proclaimed in October 1987. The aims of the Perkin Art Centre include: 1) To include recreational based activities in the field of creative arts. 2) To enhance the whole person, allowing for the individual to express him or herself creatively through the medium of the Creative Arts. 3) To enhance the clients potential for integration into the wider community. 4) To educate the community in the intrinsic value of the Creative Arts produced by people with disabilities. The paper further discusses activities included in the various program areas aimed at providing an interesting and stimulating environment that fosters aesthetic and professional development within a multidisciplinary team.
