Couples in the creative arts |
Journal/Book: Family Therapy Collections. 1988; 25: 51-70.
Abstract: Discusses the mentality of the professional artist as it relates to relationship issues between partners both engaged in the arts. Case examples of dynamics and treatment are presented showing how intrapsychic issues center around the artist's work. It is suggested that artist couples try to develop creative strategies to resolve relationship issues, yet seek expert help when their own resources run out. Parallels are drawn between the successful artist and the successful marriage, including such characteristics as flexible persistance, high self-esteem, the ability to drop an issue and move on, constructive discontent, and confident humility.
