Music therapy - a case study of childhood autism |
Abstract: In this Master's thesis, the author presents a case study of a patient diagnosed with childhood autism. The patient was treated over a period of three years by the author using music therapy. A general survey of the importance of music in the therapeutic process and of childhood autism are presented in order to derive better insight into the behavioral patterns of the patient as well as to understand treatment objectives and achievements. This is followed by a detailed description of the therapeutic process, including clinical descriptions, medical and psychological profiles, and a dictionary of the patient's invented language. The author's conclusions relate not only to her clinical experience, but also to music therapy in general.
