Geschichte des Strophanthins und Empirie des oralen g-Strophanthins |
Journal/Book: therapeutikon. 1988; 2:
Abstract: This report concerns the history of strophanthin from the accidential Observation of its antistenocardiac effect obtained by the English scientist Kirk during a travel in the sambesi region, the development of the tinctura strophanthii (1862) in England, its incorporation (1893) into the dispensary (Arzneibuch des Deutschen Reiches)) and the ferst clinicalsuccessachievedbyL. v. Krehlat the university of Heidelberg. Fraenkel and Edens, too, discovered soon the qualitatively different effect of strophanthin given in intravenous way and digita-lis (positively inotropic) an the one hand, and minimal doses of strophanthin in peroral application (protectively antis- tenocardiac) an the other hand. Sarre accentuated at the 3d Therapeuical Meeting in 1952/53 the principal differ-ence of the effects of digitalis applicated perorally and strophantin in the same form of application. The antistenocard-iac effect of minimal strophanthin do-eses given in intravenous way is still well known to German physicians from the time after the second World War. With the „americanization" of the German medicine the fatally exaggerated era of digitalis begins (1950 about 1972, rapid concentration, even of the senile heart).Holzmann and H. Schaefer mark the toxic effects of digitalis in the electrocar-diogram (e.g. shortened ST-distance).The reactivation of the lost knowledge about the cellular effect of g-strophan- thin is the special merit of B. Kern at Stuttgart, collaborating with M. v. Ar-denne at Dresden. There is a report about spectacular succes in the prophylaxis of infarct achieved in a coal-mine (H.Brembach, 1972 to 1980). The evoca-tion of infarct by stress, observed during several decades, is confirmed by the results of experimentation an animals executed by Meerson, Moscow, and M. Blohmke.
