Abstract: Among the alcohol sequelae on the fîeld of the CNS the delirium tremens, the alcohol hallucinosis, the Wernicke-Korsakoff-syndrome and alholic brain atrophy were considered as the most important ones. They are discussed rather comprehensively stressing the differential diagnosis between delirium tremens and alcohol hallucinosis. The therapeutic approaches to each of these conditions are outlined. The routine administration of thiamine in patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome is recommended in order to prevent the Wernicke-Korsakoff-syndrome.
