Abstract: In 65 patients suffering from an essential hypertension (stage 1 and 11) we have investigated the influence of the acupuncture therapy on the level of the prostaglandins E1 and F2a, in the blood serum. We have found out that the hypotensive effect is linked with changes in the level of components in the prostaglandin system. This mainly happens with regard to the inhibitor-y prostaglandins (PSE) and in patients suffering from an essential hypertension of stage Il.A hypotensive effect can also be observed when the deviations in the prostaglandin system are missing. The latter one is one of the links in the complicated regulation chain of the AD in cases of essential hypertension and plays, among other things, also a role in the correction of the arterial pressure by means of acupuncture.
