Behandlung chronisch Leberkranker mit Laktulose und Bifidum-Milch - Grundlagen und Probleme |
Journal/Book: Fortschritt der Medizin. 1988; 17: 369-372.
Abstract: Lactulose and bifidum-milk produce lactic acid and thus an acidification of the gut, growth of lactobacteria, displacement of pathogenic germs and consequently a significant decrease in ammonia and other toxic substances in the gut. The main indications are liver diseases, in particular liver cirrhosis with hyperammonemia. Unfortunately, these two substances are often wrongly administered. Owing to the initial flatulence lactulose and bifidum-milk should always be taken after meals, lactulose diluted with tea at a gradually increasing dose. Contraindications are gastric erosions or ulcers. Bifidum-milk is indicated in particular in cases of diminished protein tolerance, since ammonia, phenols and indoles do not increase, but decrease after this treatment. If the dosis is properly chosen bifidum-milk and lactulose are well tolerated, cheap and highly suitable for long-term therapy.
