Abstract: Enzyme proteins as enterally applied, intestinally absorbed, and humorally working therapeutica have repeatedly been subjected to criticism, because they - being measured with different methods - show strongly diverging absorbtion rates. The present study discusses the reasons for these variations in intestinal absorbtion values, gained by different methods. It will be shown that the mechanisms developed for the absorbtion of macromolecules in the intestinal wall - persorbtion in the apical desquamation zones of the intestinal villi, pinocytosis of the M-cells in the region of the Peyer's. patches, and ingestion aided by vagabonding lymphozytes-are sufficient to absorb enterally applied biopolymers in efficient amounts. It can be proved that in the case of the WoBe hydrolytic enzyme combinations, developed by WOLF and BENITEZ and systemically used in enzyme therapy, the absorbtion, preparation-specific, is up to 20% of the enterally conveyed amount of macromolecular active substances.
