Dylan Thomas: Waves of music, waves of sorrow. American Inst of Medical Education Conference on Creativity and Madness (1985, Kuai, Hawaii)

Journal/Book: Annual of Psychoanalysis. 1987; 15: 293-309.

Abstract: Discusses the influence of family history in the writings of poet D. Thomas (1952), focusing on Thomas' expression of grief over his father's death and the influence of his mother's obsession with his health. Examples illustrate how disturbances in family dynamics led Thomas to shift from uncertain, inward poems to powerful nature poems. The contribution of the Welsh setting to Thomas' writing is discussed.
