Abstract: Organisations of human beings are open systems whose survival depends on their ability to adapt to changes in the environment. Yet those same human beings tend to resist change strongly; perhaps, in part, because they will only do those things which they see will satisfy some personal need. Implementing change succesfully in industry depends therefore, on understanding their personal needs of those effected and how these can be satisfied. The work of A.H. Maslow and those who followed him is particularly significant in this regard.
