Abstract: This paper does not propose to provide answers for dealing with the barriers which exist against change for the music therapist and/or music educator. It aims to define the concept of barriers against change, and to highlight some of the relevant issues specifically faced by music therapists and music educators in relation to these barriers. The paper will not extend to include discussion of the positive and/or negative consequences of change. It is based on the assumption that change (to any degree) is not only advantageous but vital to the progress of any music therapist or music educators' role. For the purpose of this paper it will be relevant to examine change models and theories in relation to people.
