Music therapy with multi-handicapped students: Individualizing treatment within a group setting

Abstract: Music therapy has been used increasingly as a teaching modality with physically and multi-handicapped children and adolescents in school settings. One difficulty in working with these students is the high degree of therapist intervention required when implementing music therapy programs in group settings. A music therapy program that attempted to individualize treatment procedures within a group situation is described in this article. Data are presented concerning each student's progress toward sample I.E.P. goals and objectives.
