Composing music for use in therapy |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy Perspectives. 1987; Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. National Association for Music Therapy. journal article.
Abstract: The focus of this paper is to present a model for music therapists to follow in composing music for use in therapy. Since music therapists individualize goals and treatment plans for the people with whom they work, the author suggests that therapists individualize the music as well. The supposition is that music therapists can compose music and design original experiences based on client goals. Literature in both contemporary composition and music therapy, along with musical examples from clinical practice, support the model for clinical composition. The author suggests that music therapists can develop and individual approach to activity development through musical composition.
