Music therapy with the overcontrolled offender: Theory and practice. Joint Conference of the National Coalition of Arts Therapy Associations (1985, New York, New York) |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1987; 14: 215-221.
Abstract: Delineates a theoretical foundation for stimulation of creativity in the mentally retarded and makes suggestions for the development of appropriate music strategies and activities with this population. A music activities project conducted with 8 trainable mentally retarded 9-16 yr olds is described. It is concluded that a broader definition of creativity that identifies fundamental, measurable cognitive and affective behaviors could have significant impact on music therapy practice for the mentally retarded by making the development and expression of creativity possible for them.
