The Current Situation in Music Therapy in West Germany

Abstract: The author comments on the current situation in music therapy in West Germany. He outlines the academic situation, with two state recognised study courses in progress, and emphasises that research in music therapy remains an important task for the future. The professional situation for music therapists working in the Federal Republic has yet to be clarified, in the author's opinion. He calls for an inclusion of music therapy in the "Guidelines for Psychotherapy" at present under review. It is hoped that in the course of 1987 the medical insurance situation will become standardised as health insurance companies agree to cover the costs of music therapy.
