Escherichia Colir Strain Vaccine in Treatment of Chronic Sinusitis

Abstract: A vaccine of heat-killed R forms of human intestinal Escherichia coli was used in a double blind placebo study in treatment of chronic sinusitis. 114 patients were included in this clinical trial (56 vaccine, 58 placebo). Vaccine or placebo were injected subcutaneously twice a week in increasing dosage during 3 months. The score of clinical parameters was improved by vaccine administration by 82%, by placebo treatment by 54% (p 0.0003). Elimination of symptoms was achieved in 68% of the patients by vaccine application, in 32% of the patients by placebo injection (p 0.0003). Safety parameters in blood and urine were not altered. Titers of serum and saliva immunoglobulines were changed, however, significant results were not noted.
