Abstract: This paper outlines alcohol-related brain damage (ARB), management of the patient and the effect on the family and their needs. The difficulties people with ARB face are discussed together with techniques for management of cognitive skills, memory deficit, planning and organising / insight deficit, in terms of what is seen as "family", approaching the family (interview format), family dynamics, and perceptions.
