Abstract: This paper describes the use of improvisational music in councelling adults with illness or other conditions in which there is an emotional component which can be reached by making use of existing emotional associations with music. The "Client Centred Approach" of Carl Rogers (1967) is used as an analogy in reflecting back to a client what he is telling us about himself by using music which is new to him. Three case studies are included.
