Dancing the waltz to rock and roll music

Abstract: Comments on the treatment described by D. C. Treadway (see PA, Vol 73:12490) of a couple who presented with the husband's drinking problem. It is argued that Treadway did not pay sufficiently close attention to the couple's goals and that he experienced difficulty when he departed from the pursuit of those goals. His initial classification of the couple caused him to focus excessively on eliminating the husband's drinking and to overlook other problems that the couple faced.
