Abstract: Examines F. Wedekind's street ballad, "The Teacher from Mezzodur," using psychoanalytic methods of literary interpretation. The enigmatic motif of the tragic deed celebrated in song is analyzed, and the author's familiarity with the secret knowledge of psychoanalysis is illustrated through his use of literary techniques that are analogous to defense mechanisms.
