The integrative use of music therapy with geriatric residents in a nursing home |
Abstract: Group participation in high positive reinforcement music exercise sessions increased over six weeks, while participation in low positive reinforcement sessions maintained at a minimum level. Attendance at regularly scheduled group activities of individuals receiving one-to-one visits focusing on music interactions increased within nine weeks, whereas attendance by individuals receiving one-to-one sessions with no music remained at a low level. The use of music to facilitate communication behaviors of many of the residence is also documented.
