Music and Parkinsonism

Abstract: A small number of men and women, with Parkinson's Disease participated in a combined music therapy and physiotherapy project. The object was designed to asses the effect of music on walking, movement, tremor and speech. It was observed that music provides motivation and rhythmic stimulous to initiate movement, increase mobility, and assist in the control of voluntary movements. Music can also be used to induce a state of relaxation which reduces involuntary movements and permits increased control of movement.
