Music as a Whole

Abstract: Music, when seen as a whole, is not so much a matter of being as of coming into being, that is of time-bound, ordered, sounding events. HANSLICH's definition of musical form as a dynamic reality initiated in essence the music psychology taught by KURTH, MERSMANN and BRENN IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: This involves exact analysis of how music is experienced: the "now"of being and of distinctive qualities; series of notes; length of notes; the note in the present and not in the present; the range of the present; rhythm and form. This musicological paper contributes to music therapy's research into the concept of music and as such deals with the holistic aspect of music, an area particularly relevant to music therapy.
