Wärmehaushalt beim Winterschwimmen (Eisbaden)
Journal/Book: Zeitschrift für Physiotherapie. 1985; 37: 31-36.
Abstract: It is reported on the influence on the heat regulation of 14 sportsmen carrying out ice-bathing.They bathe regularly in the Baltic Sea or in the Berlin Lake District in winter The ice-bath leads to a decrease of the sublingual temperature by 0.5° and a decrease of the skin temperature by several degrees of Celsius. Obese and persons accustomed to ice-bathing tolerate a longer stay in the ice-water than test persons with little fatty tissue and those not accustomed to icebathing. Increasing accustoming leads to an improved and excessive warming of the acra. The possible value of the changes observed for health is discussed.
