Scale for Attitudes to Classical Music (SKM)

Abstract: This paper presents a questionnaire which registers attitudes to classical music. After item analysis and selection calculated from the data of N=639 school students, the resulting scale consists of nine items requiring dichotomous responses. The inner consistency and retest reliability of the scale proved satisfactory. One-dimensionality was confirmed by means of scalogram analysis (according to GUTTMAN) and factor analysis. Potential fields of application for the scale are music psychology, music therapy and music pedagogy.
