Movement as musical expression in a music therapy setting |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy: The Journal of the AAMT. 1984; 2: Philadelphia, PA, USA. American Association for Music Therapy. journal article.
Abstract: The author proposes that music therapists acknowledge a broad definition of children's musical expression, including movement as well as instrumental and vocal production. Attention is drawn to the dearth of reference in music therapy literature to movement as a mode of expression in a therapeutic relationship. The value of movement as a vehicle for musical expression is exemplified by two case studies. It is suggested that music therapists study the works of dance and body therapists and of the music educator Jacques Dalcroze, and that these ideas then be adopted to music therapy clinical practice and training.
