A Music Program for the Older Mildly Intelectually Handicapped Student

Abstract: This program aims to show how to use the "hardware and software" of music in a program to broaden students experiences, open up options and help them achieve a degree of independence in leisure skills. In 1982 "The Life Skills Curriculum Project" was established by the division of special education with the curriculum branch of the Queensland department of education. Its focus was on the development of curriculum guidelines for special schools and units in the area of what was termed "daily living skills". This has led to the development of a policy of "School Based Curriculum" in special education.
