Anwendung von L-Methionin in der Urologie

Abstract: 26 patients with lower urinary tract infection received L-Methionin, one of the necessary amino acids in order to lower urinary pH. Combined with continuous dreinage of the bladder with normal saline a significant reduc-tion of the number of bacteria could be achieved. Blood ges checke be-fore, during and after the treatment revealed no changes in blood pH, base excess ranges were within normal limits. In patients scheduled for radical cystectomy and ureterosigmoideostomy the oral application of L-Methionin was used as an acid loading test in order to predict the post-operative tolerance-range of acidosis.
