The Exploratory Character of Music Therapy |
Journal/Book: Musiktherapeutische Umschau. 1983; 4: STUTTGART. G. Fischer Verlag. 83-94.
Abstract: The author takes up in his paper various aspects of the exploratory character of music therapy. He discusses musical improvisation and verbal expression as the two actual levels of communication and examines the question of whether the musical expression of feelings alone, without transferral to reflective thought processes, can in itself be meaningful in therapeutic terms. The author goes on to emphasise the significance of play in the light of a child music therapy, as well as the essential components of music therapy with adults. These are said to include the patient-therapist relationship and three encounter levels in their interaction: the work agreement, the transference relationship and the musical relationship.
Keyword(s): Musical-improvisation, verbal-expression, patient-therapist-relationship.
