Songwriting as a therapeutic procedure

Abstract: A brief discussion of the healing role of creative role of creative arts and a survey of the documented use of songwriting in therapy provide a rationale for the therapeutic value of songwriting experiences. The major portion of the article is devoted to examples of exercises to aid clients in sognwriting, progressing from highly structured to less structured procedures.
