Abstract: The "Freies Musikzentrum e.V. München" (Free Music Centre, Regd.Soc., Munich) is an institution open to citizens of all ages, to amateurs as well as professional musicians. On the one hand we aim to help those who do not consider themselves to be mzusical to overcome their fear and blocking in the face of instrumental or vocal expression; on the other hand the professional musician or teacher of music can discover fresh approaches to music through intensive experience of its basic components and improvisatory handling of sounds. Our work concentrates on music education (particularly aspects rarely or never dealt with previously in schools and in colleges of music, such as improvisation, perception of rhythm, aural sensitivity, self-experience and personality-forming elements of musical activity), the inclusion of non-European music, prevention and therapy, instrument-making and the commissioning of reseach, particularly on the interaction of music, health, ecology and international understanding.
