Abstract: Psychotherapy and counselling take place wherever people turn to someone from whom they can expect help on the basis of professional or personal competence. The sociopsychological view of the interaction involved can encompass as varied a range of situations as psychotherapy, pastoral care and music therapy. This paper attempts to present their general sociopsychological basis.
