Abstract: Reviews the various types of therapy and theory that have succeeded each other since the public health services took schizophrenics under their care. The present theoretical base emphasizes the patient him/herself and includes such variations as in- or outpatient care, family therapy, intermediate structures, group therapy, and various types of specialized workshops (art and music therapy). Continued psychiatric research and treatment at many different levels represent the best hope for understanding and treating schizophrenia. (Italian & Spanish abstracts) (107 ref)
